The 80th Eastern Region Conference finale was the first Ms. NSPDK Eastern Region Pageant. This event was sponsored by the ER Fundraising Committee, chaired by Soror Tania Green-Clark of Beta Zeta Chapter. This pageant was birthed under the leadership of Eastern Region Director, Dr. Patsy Squire, with the idea to put books in the hands of children as the annual conferences are held around the region.
MS. NSPDK Eastern Region 2020-2021
Mrs. Valerie Edwards
Beta Lambda Chapter
Mrs. Edwards ran her campaign with a focus to help “Stamp Out Illiteracy: READ!”. She began working towards these efforts in her Virginia Community by adding books to a book bag project in memory of her husband, Anthropos Michael Edwards, for students in a local school, as they prepare to open for the fall.
Beta Lambda Chapter of Winston-Salem, NC distributed hundreds of books in October and November. Ms. NSPDK ER was among the members for these Book Giveaway events. One was for an educational program with the Boys and Girls Club (Salvation Army). The other was with a tutorial program at Rupert Bell Recreation Center. Students were encouraged to build libraries and READ!
She attended the Virtual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Read-In sponsored by Beta Omicron Chapter. She applauded the representation of young people in the program. She supported the Eastern Region Literacy Committees’ Virtual BINGO Game Fundraiser, for an evening of fun and fellowship. Lastly, Ms. NSPDK ER 2020 and her Royal Court closed out the Friday night session of the ER Y.E.S. Planning meeting with a tribute to the Founders’, “We Speak Your Name”!
