Welcome from the Eastern Region Director
The National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa, Incorporated is an organization of professional educators with several purposes. We represent professionals in all components of the learning spectrum. We are committed to our motto, “To Foster A Spirit of Sisterhood Among Teachers and Promote the Highest Ideals of the Teaching Profession”. We stand on the shoulders of eight teachers that decided in 1923 the importance of stimulating professional growth among teachers and encouraging the development of the potential of our youth.
The Eastern Region is home to 29 active chapters from Connecticut to North Carolina. All chapters are dedicated to fulfill the purposes set forth by our illustrious founders and work diligently to serve their communities by reaching out to students, teachers and the community at large.
The Y. E. S. (Youth, Education, Service) program guides us in the work we perform. We provide workshops for teacher development and mentoring; parent workshops on the new trends in education and how to help children succeed with new curriculum standards.
Y-Our youth programs are designed to develop the potential of our youth. The high school groups, Xinos (young ladies) and Kudos (young men) are offered guidance and educational support. They participate in meaningful community service projects and learn the importance of giving back to their communities. As a step in enhancing their growth, our youth also connect and network with other professional organizations. The young people who have participated in our program successfully go on to college and careers, becoming self-sufficient adults.
E-As part of our education component, we offer scholarships on the national, regional and local levels to young people seeking careers in education. Our applications are made available through area high schools, churches and the local chapter via the youth groups.
S-Our service activities have led us to a partnership with the Black Women's Agenda and AARP. We have participated in their “Because We Care” Symposiums and hope to spread the word about caregiving throughout our region. Our chapters are involved in annual service projects that support their immediate communities as well as national projects.
We extend an invitation to educators with a desire to effect change and make a difference in the lives of youth, parents, and families. Feel free to contact the chapter in your area for more information.
